So, the aim of the Design and Development Team, is to drive commercial growth by creating technical opportunities. The NPD Technologist will support this by leading aspects of new product development, within the New Formats and Technologies platform. This will include supporting elements, from ingredient research through to factory production, on complex new products. There will be a specific focus on working with external partners to discover and develop new ingredients, or products, which create product innovation opportunities for the brand worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the scoping and feasibility aspects of assigned projects, which require new ingredients or formats. Take technically challenging concepts and prove their feasibility, before handing over for blend development of internally produced blends

  • Lead specific strategic roadmap initiatives, within the New Formats and Technologies platform. This will involve proactively researching and testing suitable new ingredients in order to support the development of a pipeline of new product opportunities that meet quality standards, food safety requirements and legal compliance, whilst ensuring profitability.

  • Support the NPD Manager for new formats and technologies, on some projects, with aspects such as blend creation, lab testing and factory trials.

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders including raw material sourcing, quality, ethical and regulatory teams to ensure ingredients and products meet the correct standards in terms of quality and commercial considerations.

  • Work with suppliers and agglomeration partners to build ingredients into formats required.

  • Perform internal lab tests on new ingredients to ensure they blend effectively and look credible for use in our products in terms of manufacturability and meeting regulatory requirements.


Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • 2 years’ experience of working, within an NPD environment, as an NPD or R&D Technologist, or similar. Preferably within Food and Beverages.

  • Demonstrable experience of working with food or beverage raw materials

  • Experience of developing new ingredients, or challenging new products, beyond a business’s core capabilities, preferred

  • Experience of identifying partners who can supply or develop new raw materials, which bring competitive advantage to new products, is desirable. 

  • Working knowledge of food or beverage production techniques.
