Our client are currently recruiting for a Software Engineer Manager to join their rapidly expanding business which focuses on one of the most exciting and technically challenging areas of aerospace.

As the Software Engineering Manager you will be reporting to the Head of Design and in your role, you will be placed at the helm of unmanned air systems development in the UK. Our client seek someone with demonstrable experience leading and developing a software team. You will be leading a team of software engineers in the delivery of software products including: flight management, navigation and stabilization systems.

You will join our friendly team of software, aerospace and electronics engineers, aviation specialists and support staff in a small but rapidly growing company leading the way in this exciting field.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Essential: Educated to degree level with at least 5 years 'experience in the software domain. Demonstrable experience of managing software teams, delivering products from concept to delivery and technical leadership. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Close liaison with the Programme management team to ensure that project timescales are developed, understood and adhered to, in the achievement of project goals

  • Conduct regular one to one meetings with team members

  • Conduct timely annual performance reviews setting a culture of high performance

  • Establish career development plans and oversee the appropriate training, mentoring and coaching for all developers

  • Ensuring each of the Team’s projects is subject to appropriately tailored governance and control, risk and opportunity management, financial management and reporting

  • Provide leadership and expertise with respect to planning and establishing goals and policies to improve processes and procedures.

  • Ensures compatibility with existing solutions, infrastructure, services, and strategic requirements.

  • Ensures the conceptual completeness of the technical solution.

  • Oversee the development of hardware components of the system.

  • Interface with customers regarding the applicability of the products

  • Develops new and cost-effective methods for better efficiency within the department.

  • Providing coaching and guidance for project teams throughout the project life cycle from conception through delivery to support

  • Assessing and authorising product release ensuring compliance with requirements and readiness for delivery.

  • Leading the development of software training, skills, methods, tools, processes and culture to improve the company’s capability and performance.

  • Ensuring all UAV flight operations and technical activity undertaken by the team complies with the functional guidance provided by Head of Unmanned Flight Operations and all engineering activity complies with the functional guidance from the Head of Design

  • Day-to-day management of allocated projects by executing the endorsed project plan, monitoring progress and taking the necessary corrective actions to achieve the required schedule and technical compliance within the authorized budget

  • Supporting the company’s strategy and new business development activity, especially technical input into potential new products and their customer requirements, in line with the functional guidance provided by the Head of Design

  • Providing input and/or approval to support costing and pricing for sales proposals

  • Supporting the CEO and Head of Design to ensure the Company has an appropriate culture and systems to conduct its activities both lawfully and ethically

Personal

  • Must have an existing right to work in the UK

  • Ability to hold MOD clearance

  • Ability to live near and work in Salisbury, Wiltshire UK

  • Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel

  • Good communicator

  • Excellent problem solving ability

  • Ability to work well in a team

  • Enthusiasm for their work and self-motivated
