​The purpose of this position is to lead on the accountability for procurement, management and communication of all aspects of the purchasing relationships between suppliers and our client resulting in improved sales and product performance.

You will be responsible for your own group of suppliers which collectively contribute to a % of the company turnover. Alongside forecasting and negotiating, the other key skill required is through market research, provide industry analysis which in turn will expand your portfolio of suppliers.

Part of the role will include providing analytical data to support decision making so the ability to communicate effectively with various Heads of cannot be overlooked.

Other areas of responsibility will include:

  • Nurturing and developing supplier relationships

  • Central stock turnover - ensuring targets are met in line with agreement from the Head of Procurement and Chief Executive

  • Stock value maintained - Any surplus stock must maintain an agreed value

  • Forecasting and planning - conducting regular reviews of stock requirements

  • Trade shows - Any 'Show offers' must be agreed with all parties (suppliers, Heads of.)

  • Pricing - You will lead on the price pitching and agree with respective suppliers

  • Market price monitoring - As in any vital Buyer role, you will need to ensure prices are monitored daily to maintain market competitiveness

  • Communication factor - Whilst you will have no direct reports, you will have resources to support your projects and so it is essential you can liaise and motivate team members around you

So what are we looking for in a candidate?

Buying experience within the retail sector comes high on the list. As does being able to demonstrate experience of being responsible for your own portfolio of suppliers. In your previous buying role, we would want to see evidence of where you have negotiated terms, contracts, can understand promotional/seasonal calendars and use forecasting and planning tools effectively.

Like with all Buyer positions, an analytical mind is important, strong capabilities when using MS Excel, SAP and other platforms will help. And above all, a passion for purchasing. What could seal it, is an interest or previous experience in consumer electronics!
