We are seeking a practical, hands-on Design Engineer to join a specialist UK manufacturer with a strong reputation for innovation, reliability, and engineered product performance across global markets.

The role will involve owning the design and development of new and existing products from initial concept through to production release, working closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, compliance, and project stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a key part in delivering robust, manufacturable solutions that meet demanding operational environments and regulatory requirements.

This opportunity would suit an engineer who already has some industry design experience and is looking to deepen their technical capability within a collaborative, values-driven organisation where continuous improvement and problem solving are central to the culture.

The company has over 50 years’ experience designing and manufacturing specialist products and systems for sectors including healthcare, public infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on durability, efficiency, and user-focused innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop products and assemblies using 3D CAD tools, from concept through to production documentation

  • Produce detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation

  • Support design validation activities including analysis, prototyping, testing, and FMEA

  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure designs are compliant, manufacturable, and cost-effective

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of existing products and processes

  • Assist with prototype builds and creation of manufacturing work instructions

  • Work within ISO-based quality systems and engineering processes

Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who combines technical ability with the right mindset and behaviours.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have hands-on experience in mechanical or product design within a manufacturing environment

  • Be proficient in 3D CAD (any major system)

  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail

  • Be comfortable working across multiple projects with varying complexity

  • Show initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and improve

  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues across departments

An engineering or product design qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent experience) is expected.

Cultural Fit & Values Alignment

Success in this role requires alignment with a culture built around:

  • Positive attitude and ownership of challenges

  • Determination to deliver practical solutions

  • Collaborative teamwork and knowledge sharing

  • Humility and openness to learning

  • Reliability and commitment to quality outcomes

The organisation places strong emphasis on creating an environment where problem solving is engaging, ideas are shared openly, and teams work together to achieve successful outcomes.

Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a Design Engineer who wants to:

  • Take ownership of real products

  • Work across the full engineering lifecycle

  • Develop technical depth in a specialist manufacturing environment

  • Contribute to meaningful, purpose-driven engineering solutions

  • Build a long-term career within a stable, growing business

Benefits

  • 24 days holiday + bank holidays

  • Flexible working hours with early finish on Fridays

  • Supportive team environment
